Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report

yad vayaṃ nānugacchāma tvāṃ dhig asmān narādhamān |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical accountability: when a leader acts for the people’s welfare and fulfills rightful needs, followers incur moral blame if they refuse to support or emulate that dharmic conduct. It frames failure of loyalty and discernment as a personal fault deserving self-reproach.

Sanjaya voices regret and condemnation of “us” (his side/associates), lamenting that despite receiving benefits and protection aimed at public welfare, they did not follow the addressed person’s guidance or example. The tone is penitential, typical of post-crisis reflection in the Sauptika context.
