Victory gained by slaughtering one’s own kin and well-wishers is ethically corrosive and ultimately unstable; violence invites reversal, so the ‘conqueror’ can soon become the conquered.
The Sūta-narrator summarizes the catastrophic cost of the Kurukṣetra conflict: the side speaking has destroyed its own relational world—brothers, friends, elders, descendants, and ministers—claimed victory, and now faces defeat at the hands of enemies, highlighting the bitter aftermath of the war.
