prātiṣṭhata tato bhīṣmo droṇena saha sañjaya | kṛpaś ca somadattaś ca bāhlīkaś ca mahāmanāḥ ||
The verse highlights the role of senior figures and the court’s shifting moral atmosphere: when elders withdraw, responsibility falls more sharply on the king. In the broader episode, Dhṛtarāṣṭra is pressed toward a dharmic corrective—granting a boon to the wronged—showing that restitution and listening to wise counsel (Vidura) are essential when adharma has occurred.
After witnessing events in the assembly, Bhīṣma and other elders (with Droṇa, Kṛpa, Somadatta, and Bāhlīka) rise and leave. Their departure precedes Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s subsequent statement—urged by Vidura—about granting Kṛṣṇā (Draupadī) a desired boon, a turning point aimed at easing the crisis created in the sabhā.
