Kuntī’s Consolation to Draupadī and Lament for the Dispossessed Pandavas (सभा पर्व, अध्याय 70)
भीमसेनने कहा--यदि ये महामना धर्मराज युधिष्छिर हमारे पितृतुल्य तथा इस पाण्डुकुलके स्वामी न होते तो हम कौरवोंका यह अत्याचार कदापि सहन नहीं करते ।।
bhīmasena uvāca—yadi te mahāmanā dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ asmākaṃ pitṛtulyaḥ tathā ca asya pāṇḍukulasyādhīśo na syāt, tarhi vayaṃ kauravāṇāṃ ayam atyācāraṃ kadāpi na sahyema. īśo naḥ puṇyatapasāṃ prāṇānām api ceśvaraḥ; manyate ’jitam ātmānaṃ yady eṣa, vijitā vayam. yadi eṣa draupadīṃ dāve niveśayituṃ pūrvam ātmānaṃ na parājitaṃ manyate, tarhi vayam asya dāve nidhāpitāḥ santo vijitā eva. yady ahaṃ na vijitaḥ syām, tarhi pādābhyāṃ pṛthivīṃ spṛśan kaścid api martyadharmā manuṣyo draupadyāḥ keśān spṛṣṭvā mama hastāt jīvann na mucyeta. rājānaḥ, parighasadṛśāḥ sthūlā vṛttākārāś ca mama etā mahābāhavaḥ paśyata; etayoḥ madhye praviśya indro ’pi jīvann na mucyeta.
毗摩说道:“若高怀大志的达摩罗阇·由提施提罗——于我等如父,亦为般度一族之主——并非如此,我等决不会忍受俱卢诸子这般暴虐。彼为我等之主——甚至是我等功德、苦行与性命之主。若在以德罗帕蒂为赌注之前,他并不自认已败,那么我等既被他押作赌注,便早已被算作输家。若非我已受败辱所缚,凡行走于大地的任何凡人,敢触般遮利之发,决不能从我手中活着逃脱。诸王啊,且看我这双巨臂——粗厚圆硕,如铁杵一般;便是释迦多罗图(因陀罗)闯入其间,也难以生还。”

The passage highlights the tension between righteous restraint and righteous anger: Bhima’s fury is checked only by reverence for Yudhishthira’s authority and dharmic position, yet the moral gravity of Draupadi’s humiliation is presented as an offense that demands accountability.
In the aftermath of the dice-game humiliation, Bhima addresses the assembled kings, condemning the Kauravas’ outrage and asserting that only Yudhishthira’s status as their lord prevents immediate violent retaliation; he declares that, had he not been rendered ‘defeated’ by the wager, no one who touched Draupadi’s hair would have survived.
