Escalation of Wagers and Shakuni’s Repeated Declarations of Victory

Outer honor and material splendor do not guarantee inner goodwill. The verse subtly contrasts formal hospitality (permission to enter gem-filled residences) with the mixed emotions within the royal household, warning how envy can persist beneath etiquette and threaten dharmic harmony.
The Pāṇḍavas, having been granted permission, enter richly adorned residences. Duḥśalā and other women of the Kaurava household observe their arrival, setting a tone of courtly observation and latent rivalry amid ceremonial welcome.
