The verse highlights dharmic conduct in transitions: one should not act unilaterally or abruptly but depart only after taking leave and consulting those who deserve respect—family members, allies, and spiritual authorities—thereby preserving social harmony and moral order.
After completing his purpose in the Pāṇḍavas’ setting, the departing figure (contextually Krishna) formally takes leave of Subhadrā, the Pāṇḍava heroes (Bhīma, Arjuna, and the twins), and the priest Dhāumya, and then proceeds toward his own capital.
