Jarāsandha–Vāsudeva Saṃvāda: Kṣātra-Dharma, Pride, and the Ethics of Coercion
Sabhā Parva, Adhyāya 20
भीकम (2 अमान (जरासंधवधपर्व) विशोड€्ध्याय: युधिष्ठिरके अनुमोदन करनेपर श्रीकृष्ण
vāyudeva uvāca | patitau haṃsaḍimbhakau kaṃsaś ca sagaṇo hataḥ | jarāsaṃdhasya nidhane kālo ’yaṃ samupāgataḥ ||
风神伐由说道:“哈姆萨与丁婆迦已然覆灭,康萨也连同其党羽被诛。如今,毁灭阇罗桑陀的命定时刻已经到来。”
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse emphasizes kāla (the ripening of the right moment) in dharmic action: when oppressive forces and their supports have already fallen, it becomes ethically appropriate—and even necessary—to proceed against the remaining source of harm (Jarāsandha) for the restoration of order.
A divine voice (Vāyu) announces that key figures—Haṃsa, Ḍimbhaka, and Kaṃsa with his followers—have already perished, and therefore the opportune time has come to move against Jarāsandha of Magadha, setting the stage for the Magadha expedition.
