अथाभवद् युद्धमतीव दारुणं पुन: कुरूणां सह पाण्डुसृञ्जयै: । शरासिशव्त्यृष्टिगदापरश्वधै- नराश्वनागासुहरं भूशाकुलम्
athābhavad yuddham atīva dāruṇaṃ punaḥ kurūṇāṃ saha pāṇḍu-sṛñjayaiḥ | śarāsi-śakty-ṛṣṭi-gadā-paraśvadhair narāśva-nāgāsuharaṃ bhūśākulam ||
三阇耶说道:随后,库鲁与般度族并与斯林阇耶诸军之间,又一次爆发了极其惨烈的战斗。箭矢、刀剑、长枪、投枪、钉头槌与战斧夺取了人、马、象的性命,大地也为之震荡纷乱。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical gravity of renewed hostility: once war reignites, it becomes indiscriminate, consuming not only warriors but also animals and the wider world, symbolized by the earth itself being shaken. It implicitly warns that adharma-driven conflict multiplies suffering beyond intended targets.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the fighting has flared up again between the Kaurava forces and the Pāṇḍavas allied with the Sṛñjayas. The battlefield turns into a lethal melee of multiple weapons, causing heavy casualties among men, horses, and elephants.
