Educational Q&A

Even a powerful army collapses when its cause and conduct are unrighteous and its resolve breaks; the verse highlights the visible human cost of war—wounds and suffering—and implies that adharma leads to defeat and misery.

Sañjaya reports that the Kaurava forces (Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s side) have turned away in retreat, bleeding from many wounds. The line also functions as a chapter-colophon marking the end of the 60th chapter within the Kṛṣṇa–Arjuna dialogue section of Karṇa Parva.
