Chapter 45
निरस्तनेत्रजिल्लान्त्रा वाजिन: सह सादिभि: । पतिताः: पात्यमानाश्ष क्षितौ क्षीणाश्ष शेरते
nirastanetrajihvāntarā vājiṇaḥ saha sādibhiḥ | patitāḥ pātyamānāś ca kṣitau kṣīṇāḥ śerate |
三阇耶说道:“那些战马眼珠、舌头与肠腑迸出,倒卧在大地上——有的早已坠落,有的正被击中而崩倒——血肉狼藉、力竭不支,骑者亦伏于其侧。”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the stark impermanence of bodily life and the grave human (and animal) cost of war; it implicitly cautions against delusion about glory, reminding that violence culminates in suffering and helplessness.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the battlefield aftermath: horses, grievously wounded with organs protruding, lie dead or dying on the ground along with their riders, conveying the intensity and devastation of the fighting.
