Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the warrior-ethic of standing firm at the front and protecting one’s commander and army. It also shows how intense emotions—wrath and zeal—can fuel courage and leadership in battle, even while remaining morally ambiguous within the larger dharma-conflict of the epic.

Sañjaya describes Karṇa moving to the forefront of the Kaurava formation. Glowing like the Sun and fire, Karṇa positions himself to safeguard the commander-in-chief and to rally and draw the Kaurava troops forward, holding his ground directly before the enemy.
