Karṇa’s Breach of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Battle-Line
evam uktaḥ pratyuvāca tryambakaṃ varadaṃ prabhum

Power and outcomes in war and life are not merely personal achievements; they are conditioned by dharma and by the divine order. Addressing Śiva as ‘varada’ highlights the ethical weight of boons—gifts received (or sought) carry responsibilities and consequences.
After being spoken to, Paraśurāma responds by addressing Tryambaka (Śiva), the boon-giving Lord. The line functions as a transition into Paraśurāma’s reply/prayer, situating the ensuing speech within a devotional and consequential framework.
