कर्णस्य दानप्रतिज्ञा–शल्योपदेश–वाक्ययुद्धम्

केशेष्वन्योन्यमाक्षिप्य चिह्षिपुर्बिभिदुश्च ह । बहुत-से पैदल योद्धा दूसरे योद्धाओंको निकट पाकर युद्धस्थलमें उनपर मुक्‍्कोंसे प्रहार करने लगते थे। कितने ही एक-दूसरेकी चुटिया पकड़कर परस्पर झटकते-फेंकते और एक- दूसरेको घायल करते थे

keśeṣv anyonyam ākṣipya cikṣipur bibiduś ca ha |

三阇耶说道:在那逼仄的混战中,有些战士彼此揪住头发,拖拽翻掷;又以拳脚相击,互相致伤。由此可见,当兵刃与距离都失效时,战斗便坠入赤裸的肉身暴力——这是战争道德沉沦的图景:愤怒与求生压倒了克制与荣誉之战的规矩。
