Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the indiscriminate and comprehensive nature of wartime destruction: once battle is fully unleashed, even lawless marauders (dasyus) and formal military units alike are consumed. Ethically, it points to how adharma-driven predation and organized warfare converge in the same catastrophic outcome.

Sanjaya reports that the combatant being described has annihilated all those forces—specifically including the cavalry—and has also completely slain the dasyus (marauding, bandit-like fighters), indicating a sweeping rout and total devastation on that front.
