भीष्मस्य मध्याह्नयुद्धवर्णनम् / Mid-day Battle Description: Bhīṣma Engaged by the Pāñcālas
विपाटितविचित्राभि: कुथाभिरड्कुशैस्तथा । ग्रैवेयैश्षित्ररूपैश्व॒ रुक्मकक्ष्याभिरेव च
sañjaya uvāca |
vipāṭita-vicitrābhiḥ kuthābhir aṅkuśais tathā |
graiveyaiś citra-rūpaiś ca rukma-kakṣyābhir eva ca ||
三阇耶说道:“四周尽是象王坠落的铃铛。撕裂的五彩鞍毯与驱象钩杖散落遍地;同样,那些斑斓的颈饰与金色束带也横陈四处。”
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the impermanence of martial splendour: ornaments and royal equipment—symbols of power—become debris on the battlefield, reminding the listener that pride and display collapse before the realities of war and fate.
Sañjaya describes the battlefield after intense fighting: elephant bells, torn saddle-cloths, goads, neck-ornaments, and golden straps are seen lying scattered in all directions, indicating the rout and destruction of elephant forces.
