Chapter 89: Bhīma dispatched to protect Ghaṭotkaca amid escalating engagements
दोणो द्रौणि: कृप: शल्य: कृतवर्मा च सात्वत: । परिवार्य चमूं सर्वा प्रययु: शिबिरं प्रति,द्रोणाचार्य, अश्वत्थामा, कृपाचार्य, शल्य तथा यदुवंशी कृतवर्मा--ये सारी सेनाको घेरकर अपने शिविरकी ओर चल दिये
droṇo drauṇiḥ kṛpaḥ śalyaḥ kṛtavarmā ca sātvatāḥ | parivārya camūṃ sarvā prayayuḥ śibiraṃ prati ||
桑阇耶说道:德罗那(Droṇa)、德罗那之子阿湿婆他摩(Aśvatthāmā)、克利波(Kṛpa)、沙利耶(Śalya)以及萨特瓦塔族的克利多跋摩(Kṛtavarmā),在全军周围结成护卫之围后,便启程返回自己的营寨。
संजय उवाच
Even within warfare, leadership is shown through disciplined coordination and safeguarding one’s forces. The verse highlights responsibility and order—ethical restraint expressed as protection and regrouping rather than reckless pursuit.
Sañjaya reports that key Kaurava-side commanders—Droṇa, Aśvatthāmā, Kṛpa, Śalya, and Kṛtavarmā—encircle the army in a protective formation and proceed back toward their camp, indicating a tactical withdrawal or regrouping.
