Duryodhana’s Anxiety, Bhīṣma’s Reassurance, and Renewed Mobilization (दुर्योधनचिन्ता–भीष्मप्रत्याश्वासन–सेनानिर्गमनम्)
तब श्रीकृष्णसहित अर्जुनने क्रोधसे लाल आँखें करके बारंबार गरम-गरम लंबी साँस खींचकर सोच-विचार करनेके पश्चात् धनुषको बायें हाथसे दबाया। फिर उन शशत्रुसूदन गाण्डीवधारी पार्थने कुपित हो झुकी हुई गाँठवाले कुछ भयंकर बाण हाथमें लिये
tataḥ śrīkṛṣṇasahito 'rjunaḥ krodhena lohitākṣaḥ san punaḥ punaḥ uṣṇāni dīrghāṇi niḥśvāsān gṛhītvā vicārya dhanuḥ savye hastena nyapīḍayat | atha śatrusūdano gāṇḍīvadhārī pārthaḥ kupitaḥ śoṇitāntakarān bhīṣaṇān kiṃcid avanataparvaṇo bāṇān hastena jagrāha | balavatāṃ śreṣṭho 'rjunaḥ tair bāṇaiḥ samare sadya evāśvatthāmānaṃ vyathayat |
三阇耶说道:于是阿周那与圣奎师那并肩而立,怒使双目赤红,反复长长吐纳灼热之息。思量既定,他以左手按住弓身。随即帕尔塔——执甘狄瓦、诛敌者——愤然奋起,手取数支可怖之箭,节节弯曲,足以断人性命。凭此箭矢,强大的阿周那当即在战场上射伤阿湿婆他摩——显明战争中,思虑一瞬便可化作致命决断,一旦怒火主宰了判断。
संजय उवाच
Even in a dharma-governed war, inner states matter: anger (krodha) can rapidly convert deliberation into destructive action. The verse juxtaposes Arjuna’s moment of reflection with his immediate resort to deadly force, highlighting the ethical tension between kṣatriya duty and the need for self-mastery.
Sañjaya describes Arjuna, accompanied by Kṛṣṇa, becoming enraged, steadying his bow, taking up fearsome life-ending arrows, and promptly wounding Aśvatthāmā in the midst of battle.
