Arjuna’s Advance toward Bhīṣma; The Gāṇḍīva’s Signal and the Armies’ Convergence
tāṁstu bhītān samālakṣya bhīmasenaṁ ca mūrcchitam

The verse highlights the fragility of human composure in war: fear can seize groups, and even renowned heroes may lose consciousness. It implicitly cautions that martial prowess does not erase the ethical and psychological costs of violence.
Sañjaya reports that he observed people (a group present in the scene) in a state of fear, and also saw Bhīmasena lying in a swoon/unconscious condition, indicating a sudden, alarming turn in the battle situation.
