arjuna uvāca | keśava! samādhau sthitasya paramātmānaṁ prāptasya sthitaprajñasya kā bhāṣā? kim prabhāṣeta? kim āsīta? vrajeta kim? ||
Arjuna asks for practical, observable indicators of inner realization: the defining traits of a sthitaprajña (one of steady wisdom) and how such steadiness expresses itself in speech, posture/abiding, and conduct. The emphasis is that spiritual attainment should be recognizable through disciplined desirelessness and stable, ethical comportment.
On the battlefield setting of the Bhīṣma Parva, after hearing about equanimity and yoga, Arjuna seeks clarification from Kṛṣṇa: he wants a concrete portrait of the realized person. This question sets up Kṛṣṇa’s ensuing description of the sthitaprajña—how inner steadiness manifests amid the pressures of action and conflict.
