Bhīṣma-nipāta-saṃvāda — Sañjaya’s Report of Bhīṣma’s Fall (भीष्मनिपातसंवादः)

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how the fall of a single pillar of leadership (Bhīṣma) can collapse morale and expose the ethical and emotional cost of war. Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s focus on grief and strategy—rather than on dharma—also reflects the blindness of attachment that shapes the Kauravas’ downfall.

After learning that Bhīṣma has been brought down, Dhṛtarāṣṭra anticipates that his sons are overwhelmed with sorrow. He asks to hear the lamentations and distress expressed by Duryodhana in response to Bhīṣma’s fall.
