saṃjaya uvāca | siṃhanādas tato ghoraḥ pāṇḍavānām abhūt tadā | tathaiva tava putrāś ca nedur bhīṣmajayaiṣiṇaḥ ||
The verse highlights how collective morale and loyalty to leaders (here, Bhīṣma) intensify determination in conflict; it also hints at the ethical tension of war where courage and devotion can serve opposing causes.
As the armies face each other, the Pāṇḍavas raise a fearsome lion-like roar; immediately, the Kauravas—Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons—respond with their own shouts, motivated by the wish that Bhīṣma will prevail.
