iti śrīmahābhārate bhīṣmaparvaṇi bhīṣmavadhaparvaṇi saṅkulayuddhe saptadaśādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it situates the reader within the epic’s ethical landscape: the war becomes “saṅkula” (entangled), reflecting how competing obligations and moral compromises culminate in the fall of even the most revered figures like Bhīṣma.
This is an end-of-chapter marker stating that a chapter describing the chaotic battle, within the Bhīṣma Parva and the Bhīṣma-slaying episode, has concluded.
