The verse highlights the kṣatriya ideal of steadfast loyalty and readiness for self-sacrifice in a righteous cause: noble warriors are praised not merely for strength but for commitment and willingness to give up life for their chosen dharmic allegiance.
Sañjaya is reporting to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the scale and quality of forces aligned with the Pāṇḍavas, noting that from Cedi, Kāśi, and Karūṣa there are fourteen thousand famed mahārathas—high-born warriors prepared to die in battle for them.
