The verse highlights how anger intensifies conflict and magnifies its destructive power; even a righteous warrior like Bhīṣma can be drawn into a battle that becomes mythic in scale, reminding the listener that passions (especially krodha) can eclipse restraint and deepen the moral gravity of war.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that two extraordinary fighters are clashing fiercely on the battlefield, and the struggle becomes especially heavy for Bhīṣma; the scene is likened to the legendary duel of Bali and Indra during the devas–asuras war.
