Bhīṣma–Karṇa Saṃvāda on the Śaraśayyā (भीष्म–कर्ण संवादः शरशय्यायाम्)

sañjaya uvāca | jayadratho raṇe pārtha viddhvā bhārata sāyakaiḥ | bhīmaṃ vivyādha tarasā citrasenarathe sthitaḥ ||
三阇耶说道:噢,婆罗多!阇耶陀罗在战斗中以箭射伤了帕尔他(阿周那)之后,他立于质罗犀那之车上,迅疾而猛力地贯穿了毗摩。

The verse highlights how, in war, skill and courage can become instruments of harm when driven by rivalry and strategic necessity. It invites reflection on the ethical weight of kṣatriya combat: even when fighting is framed as duty, the narrative repeatedly shows the human cost and the rapid escalation that follows each act of wounding.
Sañjaya reports that Jayadratha first strikes Arjuna with arrows and then, while positioned on Citrasena’s chariot, forcefully pierces Bhīma as well. It is a brief battlefield update emphasizing Jayadratha’s aggressive participation and the intensity of the engagement.
