Reunion at the Kuru Court and Authorization of the Aśvamedha
tasya kṛṣṇo dadau hṛṣṭo bahuratnaṃ viśeṣataḥ | tathānye vṛṣṇiśārdūlā nāma cāsyākarot prabhuḥ ||
The verse highlights the ethical ideal of honoring worthy persons through dāna (generous gifting) and public recognition. Material gifts (jewels) are paired with social acknowledgment (bestowing a name), showing that dharmic patronage includes both support and esteem.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kṛṣṇa, pleased, gives abundant precious gifts to a person being honored, and that Kṛṣṇa together with leading Vṛṣṇi heroes also assigns him a name/title—an act of formal recognition and celebration.
