Janmaveśma-praveśa and Uttarā’s Śaraṇāgati
Entry into the Birth-Chamber and Uttarā’s Appeal
iti etad vacanaṁ śrutvā jānānāhaṁ balaṁ tava | prasādaye tvāṁ durdharṣa jīvatām abhimanyujaḥ ||
The verse highlights the ethical force of compassion and the preservation of rightful lineage: recognizing another’s power should lead not to fear or pride, but to seeking benevolent protection for the vulnerable through respectful supplication.
After hearing a statement that reveals the addressed hero’s capability, the speaker (as reported by Vaiśaṃpāyana) seeks that hero’s favor and asks for a life-preserving boon: that Abhimanyu’s son (Parīkṣit) should survive.
