Disclosure and Consolation
हते शल्ये तु शकुनिं सहदेवो महामना: । आहर्तारें कलेस्तस्य जघानामितविक्रम:,शल्यके मारे जानेपर अमित पराक्रमी महामना सहदेवने कलहकी नींव डालनेवाले शकुनिको मार दिया
hate śalye tu śakuniṁ sahadevo mahāmanāḥ | āhartāraṁ kalestasya jaghānāmitavikramaḥ ||
婆苏提婆说道:舍利耶既死,大心的萨诃提婆——勇力无量——又诛杀了沙昆尼,那正是挑拨离间、播下纷争之种的祸首。
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights moral causality in epic ethics: those who deliberately foment discord and counsel adharma become accountable for the destruction they unleash. Śakuni is identified as the 'āhartā'—the bringer-about—of the quarrel, so his fall signifies the ethical closure of a chain of instigation and consequence.
Kṛṣṇa recounts the sequence of late-war deaths: after Śalya is killed, Sahadeva kills Śakuni. The emphasis is not only on the combat outcome but on Śakuni’s role as the chief provocateur whose schemes and counsel intensified the conflict.
