Uttaṅka’s Petition for Madayantī’s Divine Earrings (Maṇikuṇḍala) — Agreement, Proof, and Vigilance
यद् दुर्लभं हि लोकेडस्मिन् रत्नमत्यद्भुतं महत् | तदानयेयं तपसा न हि मे<त्रास्ति संशय:
yad durlabhaṁ hi loke 'smin ratnam atyadbhutaṁ mahat | tad ānaye'yaṁ tapasā na hi me 'trāsti saṁśayaḥ ||
乔达摩说道:“此世间无论何等极其难得、奇妙而伟大的宝珠,我都能凭苦行之力将其取来。对此,我心中毫无疑虑。”
गौतम उवाच
The verse highlights the traditional Mahabharata theme that tapas (austerity and disciplined spiritual effort) generates extraordinary capability; steadfast resolve grounded in ascetic practice can accomplish even what seems impossible or unattainable.
Gautama asserts his confidence that, through the force of his austerities, he can obtain even an exceedingly rare and marvelous jewel in this world, emphasizing his spiritual power and certainty.
