Uttanka’s Guru-Śuśrūṣā and the Commission to Retrieve the Maṇikuṇḍalas (उत्तङ्क-गुरुशुश्रूषा तथा मणिकुण्डल-आदेशः)
तादृशं खलु ते दत्तं यच्च त्वं नावबुध्यथा: । “महर्षे! वहाँ जैसा रूप धारण करके वह जल आपके लिये देना उचित था, उसी रूपसे दिया गया; किंतु आप उसे समझ न सके
tādṛśaṃ khalu te dattaṃ yac ca tvaṃ nāvabudhyathāḥ |
“确实,赐予你的,正是以对你最相宜的形相赐下的;然而你却未能识得。”
उत्तडुक उवाच
A gift or act may be offered in a form suited to the recipient and the situation; ethical maturity requires discernment and humility to recognize the true intent rather than judging by appearances.
Uttaṅka addresses a great sage, stating that what was given (contextually, water) was provided in the appropriate form, but the sage failed to understand or recognize it—highlighting a moment of misunderstanding and a corrective explanation.
