Educational Q&A

Even a powerful ruler can be clouded by mātsarya (jealousy), but attentive listening to a true teacher (Bṛhaspati) can remove that fault; the proper response is humility—acknowledging the teacher’s merit—and returning to one’s duties with a purified mind.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that Indra hears Bṛhaspati’s words, his jealousy subsides, he praises Bṛhaspati, and then Indra departs to his own abode, marking the resolution of the immediate tension through counsel.
