Ethics of Non-attachment
अर्चयन्नतिथीन् काले दद्याच्चापि प्रतिश्रयम् । फलपत्रावरैर्मूले: श्यामाकेन च वर्तयन्,अतिथिको आश्रय दे और समयपर उनका सत्कार करे। जंगली फल, मूल, पत्ता अथवा सावाँ खाकर जीवन-निर्वाह करे
arcayann atithīn kāle dadyāc cāpi pratiśrayam | phalapatrāvarair mūlaiḥ śyāmākena ca vartayan ||
风神说:“当其时,当敬奉来访之客,并为之施与栖身之所。以野果、树叶、根茎——乃至以黍类之‘śyāmāka’——自养而生,切莫怠慢待客之道。”
वायुदेव उवाच
Even with minimal resources, one must uphold atithi-dharma: receive guests respectfully, at the right time, and provide them shelter; personal austerity should never become an excuse for neglecting hospitality.
Vāyudeva is instructing on righteous conduct, describing an ideal mode of living where one survives on simple forest foods while still honoring and housing guests who arrive.
