Life and consciousness in embodied beings are attributed to the jīva as the originating, animating principle: it is called the 'seed' of beings because it is the inner cause by which creatures live and the body becomes sentient.
A brāhmaṇa speaker explains how the jīva enters an embryo and pervades its limbs part by part, thereby producing sentience and sustaining life—framing embodiment as dependent on an inner living principle rather than mere physical formation.
