Marutta’s Sacrifice: Indra’s Threat, Saṃvarta’s Mantric Restraint, and Divine Reconciliation (अध्याय १०)
आग्नेयं वै लोहितमालभन्तां वैश्वदेवं बहुरूपं हि राजन् नीलं चोक्षाणं मेध्यमप्पालभन्तां चलच्छिश्र॑ं सम्प्रदिष्टं द्विजाग्रया:
āgneyam vai lohitam ālabhantāṃ vaiśvadevaṃ bahurūpaṃ hi rājan nīlaṃ cokṣāṇaṃ medhyam apy ālabhantāṃ calacchiśraṃ sampradiṣṭaṃ dvijāgryāḥ
毗耶娑说道:“大王啊,当为火神阿耆尼献上赤色之供;为诸‘一切天神’(Viśvedevas)献上形色多样之供品。又当令最尊贵的婆罗门依仪轨,在以礼触之之后,受纳一头深蓝色之公牛——清净而合乎祭仪,灵动不羁、充满生气。”
व्याय उवाच
Ritual action should follow prescribed dharma: offerings are matched to deities (Agni with red-hued items; Viśvedevas with varied offerings), and gifts to Brāhmaṇas should be ritually appropriate (medhya) and given in the proper manner (including the formal act of touching/acceptance).
Vyāsa instructs the king on specific sacrificial arrangements connected with the Aśvamedha context—what kinds of offerings to present to particular deities and how an eligible bull is to be formally given and accepted by leading Brāhmaṇas.
