Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Counsel on Royal Policy to Yudhiṣṭhira
so 'haṃ punaḥ punaś caiva śirasāvanato 'naghāḥ | gāndhāryā sahitaṃ tan māṃ samanujñātum arhatha ||
The verse foregrounds humility and social-ethical propriety: even a senior royal figure seeks communal and moral consent before renouncing worldly life. Repeated bowing signals accountability to dharma and to the people affected by his departure.
In the Āśramavāsika context, the elder Kuru figures prepare to withdraw to the forest. Here the speaker reports a formal request: permission is sought for departure to the forest together with Gāndhārī, expressed through repeated respectful prostration.
