Vyāsa’s Inquiry into Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Tapas and the Identification of Vidura with Dharma

vaiśampāyana uvāca | mā sama śoke manaḥ kārṣīr diṣṭe na vyathate budhaḥ | śrutaṃ devarahasyaṃ te nāradād devadarśanāt |

Educational Q&A

Grief should be restrained by dharmic understanding: the wise are not destabilized by what is ordained (diṣṭa), and one should accept the fruits of karma and destiny with steadiness, especially when the departed have attained an auspicious end according to their dharma.

Vaiśampāyana consoles Dhṛtarāṣṭra, urging him to abandon sorrow for his sons. He reminds him of the teachings he has heard from ancient seers and from the divine sage Nārada, emphasizing that the fallen warriors attained a blessed state and that Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons dwell in heaven.
