Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes restraint of anger and compassionate forbearance: even if someone acts unjustly due to old hostility, one should not respond with wrath, especially when guided by dharma.

Vaiśampāyana reports that Yudhiṣṭhira (Dharmarāja) counsels the addressed person not to be angry with Bhīma, explaining that Bhīma’s occasional harshness arises from remembering past enmity.
