Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
ततः स भुक्त्वा भगवान् दम्पती प्राह धर्मवित् । स्वप्तुमिच्छाम्यहं निद्रा बाधते मामिति प्रभो
tataḥ sa bhuktvā bhagavān dampatī prāha dharmavit | svaptum icchāmy ahaṃ nidrā bādhate mām iti prabho prabho ||
用过饮食后,那位通晓法(Dharma)的尊者圣仙对王与王后说道:“我如今想睡了;困意正压迫着我,噢,主上,主上!”
भीष्म उवाच
A guest—especially a revered sage—should be attended to according to immediate need. Dharma here is practical: honoring rest and comfort requested by the guest, without imposing one’s own convenience or doubts.
After being fed, the sage Chyavana speaks to the king and queen, stating that sleepiness is overtaking him and that he wishes to sleep. This sets up the next actions of the householders in fulfilling their duty of care toward the guest.
