Royal Duty of Honoring Learned Brahmins

Excellence in kingship and warfare is grounded in disciplined training: mastery of martial science (dhanuḥveda) should be joined with broad Vedic learning, producing strength tempered by knowledge and rightful conduct.
Bhīṣma describes a group of equally formidable men, trained in both archery and sacred learning, and then situates the account historically by introducing Haryaśva, the famed king of Kāśī and ancestor (grandfather) of Divodāsa.
