तानि निर्मथ्य मनसा दध्नो घृतमिवोद्धृतम् । प्रपितामह ब्रह्माजीने जो दस हजार नाम बताये थे, उन््हींको मनरूपी मथानीसे मथकर मथे हुए दहीसे घीकी भाँति यह सहख्रनामस्तोत्र निकाला गया है ।।
tāni nirmathya manasā dadhno ghṛtam ivoddhṛtam | gireḥ sāraṃ yathā hema puṣpasāraṃ yathā madhu ||
风神伐由说道：“以心意搅炼那些（古老的神圣名号），如同由凝乳澄炼出酥油一般，便抽取出这《千名赞》。它乃精髓：如金从矿石中炼出其精，如蜜从花中采得其华。”
