The verse teaches that the highest ideal is both beyond human description (anirdeśya, ameya) and yet morally reliable as a protector of the world (the great bearer). Devotion here is grounded in recognizing supreme excellence—wisdom, valor, power, radiance—aligned with the safeguarding of beings.
Bhishma is praising the Supreme Lord by listing epithets that summarize divine qualities. The closing epithet recalls mythic acts of upholding mountains—Mandara during the churning of the ocean and Govardhana during the protection of cattle and people—highlighting divine intervention for cosmic and social welfare.
