ya idaṁ śṛṇuyān nityaṁ yaś cāpi parikīrtayet | nāśubhaṁ prāpnuyāt kiñcit so 'mutreha ca mānavaḥ ||
Regular listening to and recitation of the sacred hymn (here, the Viṣṇu-sahasranāma in context) is presented as a dhārmic practice that removes or prevents inauspicious outcomes, benefiting a person both in this life and in the next.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s discourse, Bhīṣma is describing the fruits (phala-śruti) of the Viṣṇu-sahasranāma, assuring Yudhiṣṭhira that those who hear it regularly and those who recite it daily are protected from misfortune in both worlds.
