Rudra-Śiva: Names, Two Natures, and the Logic of Epithets
ekena aṁśena dharmārthī kartavyau bhūtim icchatā | ekena aṁśena kāmārtha ekaṁ aṁśaṁ vivardhayet ||
Prosperity should be managed in a balanced, ethical way: allocate one share to dharma and necessary obligations (including rightful livelihood and duties), one share to legitimate enjoyment (kāma), and reserve one share for growth—saving, reinvestment, or expansion—so that life remains righteous, sustainable, and steadily improving.
In Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction-focused setting, Śrī Maheśvara speaks as a teacher of conduct, prescribing a practical rule for householders: how to apportion resources so that duty, enjoyment, and future stability are all maintained without neglecting dharma.
