yudhiṣṭhira uvāca — hanta niḥśreyasaṁ jantor ahaṁ vakṣyāmy anuttamam | ahiṁsā-pāśrayaṁ dharmaṁ yaḥ sādhayati vai naraḥ ||
The supreme welfare (niḥśreyasa) is attained through dharma that is grounded in ahiṁsā (non-violence), supported by inner discipline—especially the restraint of desire and anger and the removal of delusion, pride, and envy.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on dharma, Yudhiṣṭhira speaks and introduces a teaching on the highest good, emphasizing non-violence as the foundation of righteous living and spiritual success.
