Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
nūpurāṇāṁ ninādena mekhalānāṁ ca niḥsvanaiḥ | agnijvālāsamaprakhyaṁ haṁsamayūrasevitaṁ suvarṇajaṭitaṁ uttamaṁ vimānaṁ prāpnoti, apsarāṇām aṅke suptaḥ tābhir eva kāñcīkalāpanūpurāṇāṁ madhuradhvanibhiḥ prabodhyate || koṭisahasraṁ varṣāṇāṁ trīṇi koṭiśatāni ca, lomnāṁ pramāṇena samaṁ brahmaloke mahīyate ||
The passage emphasizes karmic fruition: righteous or meritorious conduct yields refined, exalted enjoyments and honor in higher realms, described through sensory images (celestial music, ornaments, and a radiant vimana) to convey the magnitude of the reward.
Bhishma continues his discourse on dharma and the fruits of virtuous acts, describing how a person gains a golden, flame-bright celestial chariot, is attended by swans and peacocks, enjoys the company of apsarases, and is honored in Brahmaloka for an immense, numerically expressed duration.
