मानसतीर्थ-शौचप्रशंसा | Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
मुनिर्दान्तो जितक्रोधो जितशिश्रोदर: सदा
munir dānto jitakrodho jitaśiśrodaraḥ sadā
毗湿摩说道:“修行的圣者当自持自律,恒常守戒——能降伏嗔怒,并制御诸根之欲与腹之贪。”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse defines the ethical profile of an ideal muni: steady self-restraint, victory over anger, and mastery over bodily appetites—especially hunger and sexual impulse—so that conduct remains consistently dharmic.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues instructing Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma. Here he briefly lists key inner disciplines that characterize a true sage, emphasizing control of anger and the senses.
