The verse argues from precedent: since even gods secured their rightful share/status through forceful acts (Indra killing Vṛtra; Rudra disrupting Dakṣa’s sacrifice), the addressee should not hesitate to act decisively. Ethically, it highlights how appeals to ‘divine conduct’ can be used to justify violence and to silence moral doubt.
The hunter urges someone (addressed as ‘you’) to kill a serpent immediately. To persuade them, he cites well-known mythic examples—Indra’s slaying of Vṛtra and Rudra’s destruction of Dakṣa’s sacrifice—claiming these establish a model of action that should be followed without hesitation.
