Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic social order: a father’s responsibility to give his daughter in marriage through proper agreement and to conduct the rite with due regard for auspicious timing and established custom—emphasizing fidelity to one’s pledged word and ritual propriety.

Śaunaka narrates that Pramadvarā’s father formally gives her to Ruru and sets the wedding date at Uttaraphālgunī, the nakṣatra presided over by Bhaga, indicating a carefully arranged and ritually appropriate marriage.
