(Description of the Ocean) — Kadrū and Vinatā approach the sea
tasya kaṇṭham anuprāpte dānavasyāmṛte tadā | ākhyāpayātaṃ candrasūryābhyāṃ surāṇāṃ hitakāmyayā ||
The verse highlights the safeguarding of dharma and cosmic order: immortality (amṛta) is not to be gained through छल (deceit). Even truthful disclosure, when motivated by the welfare of the righteous and the protection of order, is presented as ethically justified.
A Dānava has managed to get amṛta and begins to drink it; the nectar reaches only up to his throat. At that critical moment, the Moon and the Sun recognize him and reveal his identity to protect the gods’ interests, preventing him from fully obtaining immortality.
