गौरुवाच कशाग्रदण्डाभिह्वतां क्रोशन्ती मामनाथवत् | विश्वामित्रबलैघोरैर्भगवन् किमुपेक्षसे,गौने कहा--भगवन! विश्वामित्रके निर्दय सैनिक मुझे कोड़ों और डंडोंसे पीट रहे हैं। मैं अनाथकी भाँति क्रन्दन कर रही हूँ। आप क्यों मेरी उपेक्षा कर रहे हैं?
gaur uvāca: kaśāgra-daṇḍābhihvatāṁ krośantī mām anāthavat | viśvāmitra-balaiḥ ghōrair bhagavan kim upekṣase ||
母牛说道:“尊者啊!毗湿瓦密多那残忍的军士用鞭与杖击打我。我如无依无靠者般哀号哭喊。为何您这位圣者竟旁观而不顾我?”
गन्धर्व उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical demand to protect the vulnerable: indifference (upekṣā) in the face of cruelty is itself a moral failure, especially for one addressed as bhagavan (a protector and upholder of dharma).
A cow, being forcibly assaulted by Viśvāmitra’s men with whips and sticks, cries out to a revered protector, questioning why he is not intervening while she suffers helplessly.
